This recipe from Death & Co calls for a higher-proof rye and in a greater amount than, say, the 2:1 ratio in this Liquor.com variant. You could also opt for bourbon (generally sweeter) and tweak the ratios to suit your tastes. As with many classics, the choice is yours.
