Garnish: lemon twist

Preparation

1.
Rinse a Nick & Nora glass with absinthe and dump.
2.
Stir the remaining ingredients over ice, then strain into the glass.
3.
Garnish with a lemon twist (or brandied cherry).

Notes

A bit of history This drink commemorates the 1898 sinking of the USS Maine, which precipitated the Spanish-American War. On the garnish While Death & Co's recipe calls for a lemon twist, the photo above shows a brandied cherry, a perfectly acceptable substitute that many alternative versions of this recipe employ.
