1 ozlight rum
1 ozdark rum
1 ozorange liqueur
0.5 ozgrenadine
0.5 ozorgeat syrup
0.5 ozlime juice

Garnish: pineapple spear, maraschino cherry, straw

Preparation

Shake all ingredients with ice.

Strain into chilled glass over ice cubes and garnish.

Notes

This potent, exotic favorite is said to have been invented by Victor Bergeron, the original owner of Trader Vic's restaurant. He purportedly created it for a couple of Tahitian friends who, upon tasting it, exclaimed in Tahitian, “Maitai!” (“Out of this world!”).
